One of the most fun materials to work with is acrylic. However, many people aren't quite sure what exactly acrylic is.

Our product descriptions lists acrylic as being one of the materials used in our ornaments, and I frequently get asked one of these three questions:

• Are your ornaments made of stained glass?
• Are they acrylic-painted glass?
• Are the colored pieces made of plastic?

Well, not quite any of the above! Acrylic is actually a material that is somewhere between a glass and plastic — retaining the best qualities of both.

One of the best features of acrylic is that it is far superior to glass in regard to being impact-resistant. It's incredibly hard to shatter acrylic. Whereas, an ornament made of glass would most likely find its way to the trash bin if dropped (even from a low height).

In fact, one time we were doing an outdoor art event and our ENTIRE display of Christmas trees (full of Mother's Angels^®) came crashing down on solid concrete after a surprise wind gust of 60mph came out of nowhere. Not a single ornament broke — how amazing is that?!

Acrylic is also extremely lightweight compared to glass of the same size. That is excellent news when it comes to helping prevent your Christmas tree branch from drooping down when one of our Mother’s Angels^® ornaments is placed on it!

My favorite feature of acrylic is the endless variety of colors and effects you can get. Our collection contains transparent, solid, textured, frosted, iridescent and glittered (and that's just off the top of my head). And, if you have seen our butterfly collection, you have seen the really cool collection of acrylics that have 3-dimensional design elements actually contained within the acrylic — lending to a really neat effect.

One of my favorite parts of the design process is getting to choose which acrylics to use within a design. The pairing of various acrylic colors, styles and effects are what really bring Mother’s Angels^® ornaments to life, and we hope you love the finished results!
